Dr. Manchanda N K
Professor 
Maj Gen (Dr) N K Manchanda had a distinguished career serving Administrators for 37 years and six months. During the course of Army Force held various appointments like staff officer, commanding officers, and commandant of various hospitals and finally retired as Major General (medical) of Northern Command Indian Army. Post retirement has served as administrator of a corporate hospital, President of a healthcare group, Consultant in Hospital Design and Management for Price water house Coopers International Limited (PWC). Joined as Professor and dean training in October 2011 and spearheading the mission to train and create healthcare leaders.

Dr. Usha Manjunath
Associate Professor
Dr. Usha Manjunath, M.Sc. (Speech & Hearing), M.Phil (Hospital & Health Systems Management) and Ph.D is an Associate Professor. She has had 11 years experience as Management Faculty at Birla Institute of Technology & Science. Prior to that Usha has had extensive experience for over 13 years in the professional filed of Speech Pathology and Audiology in various organizations including Not-for-profit Organizations, Schools and Hospitals in India and U.S.A. Her areas of interest in academics and research include Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, Communication, Services/Healthcare Services Management, Principles of Management, Public Health, Marketing & Quality Management of Healthcare Services and Entrepreneurship. Usha is well versed in conducting workshops and Management Development Programs on Quality & Marketing in Healthcare, Entrepreneurship, Personality, Motivation, Stress & Life Style Management, Communication and Emotional Intelligence. Dr. Usha has completed research projects in the area of Primary Health Care, Reproductive and Child Health, Process Evaluation of Universal Immunization Program at local level and Maternal Perceptions on Immunization and Quality Management in hospitals. She While at BITS, Pilani she was actively involved in community based rural development projects in the areas of woman and child health, women entrepreneurial activities, and primary school education. Through the activities of Rural Entrepreneurship as a Nucleus Member of Entrepreneurship Development and IPR Unit of BITS, Pilani, her understanding of rural development projects would provide the necessary inputs to innovations in healthcare delivery. Social involvement, people engagement and participative management were the key contributions to social projects through NSS, Gyanaganga (ASHA for Education) and My India organizations at BITS. As Professor-in-charge of Management she has networked with corporate companies. She has convened two National Level Conventions on Energizing Entrepreneurship and has demonstrated the abilities to raise funds, plan/conduct conferences, technical sessions, seminars and workshops. Dr. Usha has expertise in Management and Executive Development Programs for various groups would be very helpful in capacity building. She has published papers in national & international journals.

Dr. Fehmida Visnegarwala
Associate Professor
Dr. Fehmida Visnegarwala, MD, MPH, AB (Int. Med. And Infectious Diseases) is an associate professor and specializes in Infectious diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS. In addition, she has completed Masters in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, which has provided her with excellent knowledge and skill sets to work in the area of public health. She has more than 15 years of experience as an educator, a clinician and a researcher/investigator as a faculty in Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas and then later faculty in Atlanta Georgia. As a Director of Research and Education she has conceived and developed various education and research programs involving persons in various professional capacities. Thus, Dr. Visngerwala’s project management and team building skills have been honed by her involvement in clinical research at local and international level, where she has designed, conducted research protocols in Federally funded projects (including National Institutes of Health) to Pharmaceutical studies, observational to randomized clinical trails, and single center to multi-center protocols. To quote one such high level project management experience, Dr. Visnegarwala has co-chaired as the Principal Investigator in one of the largest multi-center International HIV/AIDS clinical trials’ sub-study involving 11 centers in three countries. Further, she has experience in training and capacity building for HIV/AIDS as a trainer of trainers in Africa, and in India . For instance she is an important resource person for a well-established HIV/AIDS NGO (ASHA Foundation, www.ashaf.org) in the Bangalore area.

Her current areas of research interest include: HIV/AIDS (including clinical research; care and support of adults and children, complications of ART, immune reconstitution, effective delivery of PMTCT services); Yogic meditation; and market based health care partnerships for health.

She is extensively published in the peer-reviewed journals and has been a peer reviewer for various journals and conference proceedings.

Dr.Amlan Datta
Associate Professor
Dr Amlan Datta is a physician and public health specialist. Following the MBBS degree from Calcutta University he pursued and completed Masters in Community Health and Ph D in Public Health (with Junior Research Fellowship of the UGC) from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has served for more than ten years with the Govt .of India & WHO as Surveillance Medical Officer in the National Polio Surveillance Project and later as Medical Consultant with the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme.

He is a life member of the Indian Public Health Association. His areas of research interest are operations & health systems research, primary health care, quality issues in health care and health informatics. He is part of the research team which develops proposals and undertakes health research projects for the Institute. He has also been the course coordinator for Health Management Information Systems and other courses in the PGDHM programme of this Institute.

Dr. Priya Thomas 
Assistant Professor 
Dr.Priya Thomas is an Assistant Professor at the Institute and holds M.A, M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees. She completed her doctoral research work in the field of Medical Anthropology from the University of Hyderabad. Dr. Priya worked with the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society as Project Associate and later worked with Hindustan latex limited as Project Officer. The job profile included working with NGOs in different districts of Andhra Pradesh for implementing target interventions among key populations and to train them on various technical, managerial and financial aspects. Dr. Priya’s work included designing modules on various aspects of Behavioral Change Communication (BCC) for various stakeholders. As a part of her job, she has conducted various sensitization programmes for government functionaries from various departments in the state of A.P. Dr. Priya was also involved in short term projects for ASCI & DFID in the areas of TB, health behavior etc. Her areas of interest include Traditional Systems of Medicine, HIV/AIDS and Community Mobilization. She has presented research papers in various National and International Conferences. Dr. Priya has participated and conducted various workshops for HLL, APSACS, UOH, and NACO.

Dr. Vinay Tripathi
Assistant Professor
Dr. Vinay Tripathi has received his academic training in the discipline of Anthropology and obtained Master, MPhil and PhD (to be awarded) from University of Hyderabad. He has been working in the field of research and development from last 5 years. He has been involved in evaluating number of projects related to the health, education and rural development domain. With sound understanding on both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, he plays a significant role in developing various research grants and proposals. He teaches courses on Demography, Research Methodology and Bio-Statistics at the Institute. He has presented papers in national conferences and published paper in a book of international repute.

Mr. Varun Sharma
Assistant Professor
Mr. Varun Sharma holds post graduate degree in Economic from Panjab University, Chandigarh, PGDIBO and PhD in Health economics (thesis submitted for evaluation) from Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune. He was awarded Jawaharlal Memorial Fund (JNMF-New Delhi) fellow in GIPE for pursuing his PhD and Senior Research Fellow (SRF), UGC in GIPE. Mr. Varun has cleared National Eligibility Test (NET) for lectureship conducted by UGC. He is well versed in handling large data sets and well acquainted with applying various statistical and econometric tools using different statistical software. Mr. Varun’s areas of research interest are HIV/AIDS and Health Economics. He has presented papers in several conferences (national and international) related to health and population economics.

Mr. K. Sreenath Reddy
Assistant Professor
Mr. K. Sreenath Reddy Assistant Professor Mr. K. Sreenath Reddy holds Post Graduate degrees in Medical Bio-Technology, Human Resource Management, and Healthcare Management from prestigious Universities. He holds qualifications in Protein Modeling and Rational Drug Designing from Accelerys-Canada (South Ontario University). He has submitted his PhD thesis in Human Genetics. As CSIR fellow he has Four years of experience in Research and Hospital Operations. Prior to joining IHMR, he worked in CCMB, Hyderabad as a Scientist in human genetics, worked as Operations Manager and Quality Control Manager in Kamineni group of hospitals and Head of Operations and Quality in JVP super specialty hospitals. He is also associated with various research and administrative aspects of AIIMS-New Delhi. He is also a Qualified Internal Assessor for NABH & NABL. He is a life member of RFHHA established by AIIMS and WHO, and also member of AHHA.

Mr. Sreenath’s areas of interest are NABH and NABL accreditation, Public Health activities and Epidemiological and Demographical Studies. He has participated and conducted various Research studies, and Presented papers in National and International Conferences.

Dr.Sarala Raju
Assistant Professor
Dr. Sarala Raju is a Social Scientist. After completing her M.A. and M.Phil. in Sociology at Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, she pursued her doctoral research (Ph.D.) in the field of Sociology (Urban) at the Institute of Social & Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore. She was a recipient of research fellowship from Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR) for pursuing Ph.D. She has also passed National Eligibility Test (NET) for Lectureship in Sociology, conducted by UGC, New Delhi. From her doctoral research work, she has published three research articles, one book chapter and presented many research papers in various seminars and conferences. Prior to joining IHMR-Bangalore as an Assistant Professor, Dr. Sarala worked as a Lecturer at Jain University, Bangalore and University of Dayton (USA) Deepahalli Program, Bangalore. She has taught various papers in Sociology for under graduate students. She has an intense research experience in area of urban slums/urban poor. She possesses good experience in qualitative data collection and analysis by using statistical packages such as SPSS. Her areas of interest include Urban Problems – Poverty and Slums, Social Network, Environmental Sociology, Migration, Human Resource Management and Public Health.

Dr. G. V. Nagaraj
Adjunct Professor - Public Health
Dr. Nagaraj is well renowned Public Health Expert. He has more than Three decades of rich experience in the Health Sector. Dr. Nagaraj graduated in Medicine in 1969, obtained a Post-Graduate Degree as well Diploma in Public Health and Hospital and Health-Management Qualification. Dr. Nagaraj is presently Visiting Faculty at IHMR, Bangalore. He has worked for 33 years in Karnataka State Government service, in various capacities starting from the Medical Officer in Rural area to the position of Deputy Director, Joint Director, Project Director Director of Health and RCH Services in the Sate level. During his long tenure he has done commendable work in health planning and Mother and Child Health Care management. Dr. Nagaraj has worked as Chief consultant for World Bank projects and won many Awards and visited across world.
